304-residence apartment community to feature electric vehicle charging stations, connected walking tails and pickleball courts

CHARLESTON, SC – February 10, 2022 – Sharbell Nexton, LLC announced today plans for The Ames multifamily community in Downtown Nexton, the urban-inspired mixed-use community serving the growing number of residents in Nexton and the surrounding region.

Charleston-based Woodfield Development recently closed on the approximately 10.5 acres and expects to break ground in the coming weeks with an anticipated delivery date of early 2023.

The Ames will feature 304 apartment residences offering a mix of studios and one-, two- and three-bedroom units. The amenity-rich community will feature a resort-style pool with full lap lanes and tanning shelves, a courtyard, grill stations and a 1,500-square-foot pool cabana with bar area.

“Downtown Nexton is the perfect neighborhood for our industry-leading design and service. We have been interested in Nexton for some time and are excited about the plans Sharbell has for the Downtown Nexton community,” said Michael Schwarz, partner at Woodfield Development. “We are thrilled to be a part of it.”

The community will also offer a two-story club building with a large fitness area, dedicated yoga and cycling room, club kitchen and dining space, rooftop patio, business center with co-working spaces and work pods and multiple outdoor green spaces, including a movie projection lawn. In addition to the club house, The Ames will include a dog park and pet washing station, two pickleball courts, an outdoor amphitheater and electric vehicle charging stations.

“Our overall vision for Downtown Nexton was to create a livable, workable environment where residents and employees can get to work or grab a cup of coffee without ever getting in their car,” said Sharbell President Thomas Troy. “The Ames will lay the foundation for Downtown Nexton’s emergence as an urban community that contributes to reduced regional traffic and commute times.”

Situated on nearly 100 acres between Sigma Drive and Brighton Park Boulevard, Downtown Nexton will provide retail, dining, hospitality, residential, service, office and commercial options within walking distance of many of Nexton’s neighborhoods. In addition to The Ames, Downtown Nexton’s first phase will include a mixed-use building with loft apartments above ground-level retail and several outparcels.
